Sketching a Lincolnshire Field

Two thirds of Lincolnshire is made up of arable farmland and we certainly saw this on our walk from Tealby to Walesby.

I found the walk online and it was really well described. There were waymarkers as some of it followed the Viking Way. I was really impressed by the huge stacks of haybales in some of the fields.

We took a picnic and ate it looking out at a lovely view next to a small church near Walesby. Oh, and you walk through a field full of deer! Once you get to Walesby, you backtrack but then the path takes you back a different way. This is where I spotted this great looking tree. I wanted to stop and sketch but there wasn't particularly anywhere for my husband or son to sit. So I just took a couple of photos and actually merged the two below for the sketch. I may not have done that if I'd sketched on the spot!

When we returned to the cottage, I went out into the garden, enjoyed the surroundings, the peace and quiet and came up with the sketch. I drew the tree first and moved it to the right of the composition. I felt it would sit in the other landscape better on the right. I also felt like the landscape around the tree wasn't very interesting but I loved the tree.
